Religion and ethics

NSW public schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics, delivered by approved providers wherever available.

NSW schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics. Approved providers deliver these, where available.

At Cromer Public School, SRE and SEE is delivered weekly on Wednesday mornings for K-2 students at 10:20am and Wednesday afternoons at 1:30pm for Years 5 & 6 and 2:10pm for Years 3 & 4 students.  On enrolment parents/carers will be given the SRE and SEE participation letter to complete and return.

After the initial enrolment, notification of changes to a child's enrolment in SRE/SEE should be given to their class teacher, in writing. Special education in ethics is an option for primary-age children if you withdraw them from special religious education.

The following SRE/SEE classes are offered at Cromer Public School:

Combined Christian SRE (also known as protestant SRE) is provided by C3 Church Sydney in conjunction with SRE teachers from Anglican and Baptist churches. Christian SRE engages students in conversations as they question life, explore values and discover faith.  Christian SRE teachers are authorised and trained by an approved provider. For more information about Christian SRE at our school, including the authorised curriculum scope and sequence, please visit the C3 Church Australia website: https://www.c3australia.com/sre   The Christian SRE Curriculum can be found at https://cepconnect.com.au/samples

Catholic SRE (Scripture) lessons include activities that are fun, engaging and inclusive for students, whilst also providing students with the opportunity to critically explore their faith and beliefs, and to pray and reflect. Catholic SRE teachers (also known as Catechists) are authorised by the local parish and trained by the Catholic Diocese of Broken Bay.  The Catholic SRE curriculum has been designed by religious education experts and authorised by the Bishop of the Diocese. For more information about the Catholic SRE curriculum visit: https://www.bbcatholic.org.au/parish-community/ministries/ccd/curriculum

Special Education in Ethics SEE lessons are provided by Primary Ethics.  For more information about SEE, including the authorised curriculum scope and sequence, please visit the Primary Ethics website. https://primaryethics.com.au

During the time that SRE/SEE classes are being held, students not attending will be located in a separate space and are encouraged to read a book and are supervised by a Cromer PS staff member.

During enrolment, you can choose a special religious education option for your child from the school’s available approved providers. You can withdraw your child from special religious education by selecting alternative meaningful activities, or special education in ethics if it’s available.

You can update your preference by writing to the school or through the online form available at participating schools.
